Iced Coffee

iced coffee

Hello.  Meet my latest summer addiction.  Iced. Coffee.  YES!

I’ve been keeping coffee in the fridge and it tempts me all day long.  And dang, I can somehow slurp this stuff thru a straw in about 3 seconds flat.

The #1 key to making good iced coffee is to chill the coffee completely before pouring over ice.  Otherwise, the ice melts and soon you just have watered down coffee.  Ewww.

Here’s the super complicated recipe.

Iced Coffee

  • Favorite coffee grounds
  • Water
  • Favorite coffee creamer

  1. Brew a full pot of coffee.
  2. Pour the coffee into a recycled milk jug or other pitcher.
  3. Chill completely.
  4. Fill glass with ice. Add coffee and creamer and stir.
  5. Drink.
  6. Drink another.

I’m the only coffee drinker in my house.  So, I was a bit curious when I realized that my coffee seemed to be disappearing faster than I thought I was drinking it.  But last night, at about 10:30 pm, I discovered my 11-year-old son with a 20 oz. Tervis cup FULL of my iced coffee.

Hello!  “You are 11!” and “It’s bedtime!” and “Since when do you drink coffee?” and “You are 11!” and “You’re gonna be up all night long!” …  …  …

In his famous “what? it’s-no-big-deal voice” he told me that I make the “best coffee ever!”  {And this is the part where I melt and let him continue to drink the nighttime coffee.}

No big surprise there; he hasn’t found a liquid he doesn’t like.

And now, iced coffee is one of his favorites.

Mine too.
